Organized racket operating in WP extorting money from road accidents
Police have revealed that there is an organized racket of criminals operating specially in the Western Province to extort money from drivers after staging road accidents.
It was reported that people who fall into the traps of organized road accidents in the Western Province are intimidated by a gang of perpetrators and fleeing after extorting money from drivers in such accidents.
This group is carrying out this extortion racket by endangering innocent people's lives in the respective areas, police said.
Police said the perpetrators make sure that such an incident is not reported to the police.
"We found out more about such people who extort money by intimidating the victims by creating a scenario that they were responsible of causing the accident," police said.
The police informed the public to inform the nearest police station or the responsible officers if such incidents are reported from any area.(Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)
