Organized criminal ‘Rotumba Amila’ arrested in Russia

Colombo, March 31 (Daily Mirror) - Organized criminal Amila Sampath, alias ‘Rotumba Amila’, has been arrested in Russia.

It was reported that the Russian security authorities had officially informed Sri Lanka’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) about the arrest.

SINGAPORE HAS NOT SIGNED UP TO DO SO, THOUGH MANY COUNTRIES HAVE AND ARRANGEMENTS ARE MADE THROUGH A PROCESS TO HAVE THEM SENT/ESCORTED BACK TO THE RESPECTIVE COUNTRY. IT IS CALLED AN EXTRADITION AGREEMENT TO RETURN THOSE WANTED BACK TO THEIR COUNTRY AND OR THE COUNTRY THEY HAVE COMMITTED THE CRIMINAL ACT.

He has not been cleared. In fact The Government on 25th Feb 25 reaffirmed its commitment to bringing back former Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran to face trial over the infamous Bond scam. Addressing the media, Cabinet Spokesman and Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa acknowledged ongoing legal challenges in extraditing Mahendran but assured that all necessary measures were being taken to facilitate his return and that legal proceedings against Mahendran would continue, regardless of whether he is physically present or not in the country.
