COLOMBO (Daily Mirror) - Some members have embarked on an endeavor to hand over a motion to Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana calling for the appointment of a select committee to probe the cricket crisis, Daily Mirror learns.

Commenting on the matter, MP Dayasiri Jayasekera told Daily Mirror that around ten members have already signed it. Members of Uttara Lanka Sahabaga led by Wimal Weerawansa, the group led by MP Dullas Alahapperuma are backing the motion according to him.

MP Jayasekera refused the claim made by the Leader of the Opposition a select committee could be an effort to sweep the issue under the carpet. “ It is a foolish idea on the part of the opposition leader,” he said.

Leader of the House Prasanna Ranatunga told Parliament on Saturday that a select committee would be welcomed by the government. Mr. Premadasa who responded said such a move would sweep the issue under the carpet.

Will these same MP B$%#A@D's sign a motion to take away the civic rights of those who were named by the Supreme Court as culprits for the nations bankruptcy?

Does this Select Committee have the power to remove corrupt SLC Executives if found guilty? If not, do not waste time and people's money.

Cricket, cricket and cricket. All nonsense such a fuss about this idiotic sport. Politics must stay completely out of it. Cricket is more of a business than a sport in this country. That's why SLC must be treated like a large company that of course also has to pay taxes. Annually the books must be audited by the Auditor General's office. Crimes such as corruption and fraud must be prosecuted by the Office of the Attorney General. Politicians are now using this sport to distract from important issues such as a sluggish economy, excessive inflation, missed elections and other pressing problems.

Commitee mania. What good do these committees bring? Nadhuthe hamaduruwange baduth hamaduruwange.

Ban cricket. Monday, 20 November 2023 10:30 AM

It looks like the easiest solution is to ban cricket in SL than having so many politically backed and currupt boards, committees etc.No cricket and everyone corrupt and clean will disburse and scatter elsewhere.

Is this staged up drama, the dying need of the hour? Who gives a flying toss about cricket and those propped up drama queens, both playing and administering the game, when the entire country is mired in a cost of living crisis? Can’t these chaps, for once, get a grip on what really affects the masses and sort those things out, rather than wasting time, effort, money and endless waffling over a silly sport, which has no place in politics to begin with? Bring down the cost of living, cost of goods and services, commodities, essentials, energy, medicines, unnecessary taxes and so on. Completely off the marbles, this lot.

SL Cricket Team set up 3 world records during the recently concluded 2023 World Cup in Inda. They are: No. 1. Scoring 55 runs all out against India within one month after being all out for 51 runs against the same team in Sri Lanka. No. 2 For highest number of dropped catches in 9 matches. No 3. For having the First Batsman to be given 'Timed Out' in an international match. Our honest and hardworking SLC Executives, Selection Committee, Coaches and Consultants must be rewarded in an Award Ceremony.
