Heavy Vehicles are supposed to have an Escort Vehicle and driven at slow speeds when out on Public roads.. The Police does not seem to care about these type of offences. Sad that these type of incidents go without any deterrent punishments.

Incidents such as this are deeply concerning, particularly as many could be avoided with proper preventive measures. A contributing factor in numerous cases is inadequate vehicle maintenance, often due to the prohibitively high cost of spare parts, tyres, and repairs. This makes it increasingly difficult for many vehicle owners to maintain their vehicles to the required standard. It may be worthwhile for the Government to re-evaluate the current tax structure on essential vehicle components. Making these items more affordable could support better vehicle maintenance and, in turn, help reduce the risk of avoidable accidents and protect lives.

This accident did not occur due to brake failure. There is due to this drunken driver, so many eye witness testifies. Even I was an eye witness. Immediate action against this driver should be taken. Attention: Acting IGP.

The government should bring in a rule that containers and heavy vehicles of such should on be on the roads from 7pm to 5:30am. Correct me if I’m wrong but I remember R Premadasa had this rule where containers can hit the road from 7pm to 6am thus avoiding accidents. To this the other heavy vehicle like cement mixers etc can be included
