One arrested with Kerala cannabis worth over Rs. 75 Mn in Jaffna

A 31-year-old suspect was arrested by the Sri Lanka Navy and Police with over 227 kgs of Kerala cannabis, during a combined search operation conducted in Ponnalei, Jaffna yesterday.

The street value of the seized Kerala cannabis is believed to be over RS. 75 million. The Navy said the operation also lead to the seizure of a lorry used to smuggle narcotic drugs.

The special operation was mounted by SLNS Agbo of the Northern Naval Command with the assistance of the Waddukoddai Police in the Ponnalei area.

In this search operation, naval and police personnel had checked a suspicious lorry on the road and recovered the stock of Kerala cannabis concealed in it. The seized 08 sacks in the vehicle contained 105 packages of Kerala cannabis weighing about 227 kgs and 915g.

The suspect, a resident of Bandarawela, along with the consignment of narcotic drugs and the lorry was handed over to the Waddukoddai Police for onward legal action.
