Norochcholai Unit 1 breaks down: Minister

Unit 1 of the Norochcholai Coal Power Plant has experienced a breakdown this morning and the Technical staff is working to identify the fault, Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekara said.

He said in a Twitter post that Unit 2 is also undergoing scheduled maintenance work while Unit 3 will continue to operate.

He tweeted that the West Coast and other Fuel Power Plants will be used to manage the supply.

Minister Finding the fault in day and age with automation is easy as. Privatise this power station If CEB engineers and employees cannot run it well. CEB has only white collar engineers, not hands on engineers. Idiots must be shown tbe door.

Looks like these were commissioned in such a way they break down periodically. Creating a dependency petroleum based fuels. Who is responsible for the smooth operation? Shouldn't they be penalised for these costs incurred?

Put this man on the of beautifying streets and lanes with flower planting etc like what Gota did well earlier. Get an outsider professional to do the job but keep him on a probation on hire and fire basis until he proves to be fit for the job.

Mathipala is the one who blocked another power plant. Sri Lankan who vote for his party in the future are asking for more environmentalist driven garbage decisions. Coal is only getting cheaper, so having new coal power plants, like India and China are opening still is the way to go. Nuclear is better, easier to keep fuel for many years in stock, but doesn't seem like Nuclear power is possibility for us yet.

This is the famous Power Plant, (Norrichholai Stage 1) which started the issues of escalating costs (20% cuts upfront) to decision makers of all Sri Lankan Projects mooted and came to be a reality during 2005 to 2014 rule of the infamous “Messiahs” and/or ‘Redeemers’ who rebirthed SL into the new age of debt, delusion and Dilemma?? The ‘booty’ of 20% of 1 Billion USD, sufficient funds to repair the plant, but it would breakdown again, because it is 2nd hand!

@New big power plant please Your sentiment for new power plant is good. The main little renewable generators are prone to the whims of the wind, sun, rain and clouds. We however, have no hope for nuclear, which even Ranil knows is best. We can only get technology from China, or Russia, and India and the US will never allow for it. India also propose to have power line from TN to Lanka to sell power to Lanka. Good if India is reliable. They stop exporting many food products as it suits their government, even when exporter want to because prices for local then rises. So, any electricity for such a project is again to the whims of India's needs even if we have the money to pay for consumption.

There is not others in the whole of the parliament other than your corrupt buddy Namal you could bring to press event? Now you keep announcing these problems. Sometimes you talk the silly talk of unreliable renewable save the grid. Then there is stormy weather, few days clouds and that's kaput. Can you show some idea yourself about what to do.
