Nonagathaya begins

The Nonagathaya or inauspicious time for the New Year will be observed from 3:08 AM to 3:56 PM on Tuesday, April 14.

This interval is dedicated to spiritual reflection, during which all routine work is paused. People are encouraged to engage in religious observances such as visiting temples, offering prayers, and practicing acts of kindness. The latter part of this Nonagathaya time is reserved for preparing traditional meals. Nonagathaya symbolizes a transition from the old year to the new, fostering mindfulness, purification, and renewal before beginning daily activities anew.
