No shortage of coal to operate Norochcholai Power Plant: Minister



There will be no shortage of coal to operate the Norochcholai Coal Power Plant (NCPP), as speculated by Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) unions and the media earlier, Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said.

He said the 23rd cargo is currently being unloaded, while the 24th and 26th have arrived at Puttalam and are awaiting to be unloaded. 

The 27th and 29th shipments have been nominated and expected to be here before May 1.

The 30th cargo is to be nominated and scheduled to arrive in the first week of May. 

A total of 30 shipments of coal are required to operate the Norochcholai power plant at full capacity as per the generation forecast of the CEB for the season. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)
