Colombo, March 07 (Daily Mirror) - The Ministry of Energy has urged the public not to be misled by false reports claiming that power cuts would be imposed due to issues related to coal supplies at the Lakvijaya Coal Power Plant.
In a statement, the Ministry said misleading information has been circulating on certain media platforms suggesting that problems have arisen in the supply of coal to the Norochcholai power plant and that power cuts may be imposed, particularly around April.
However, the Ministry clarified that out of the 36 coal shipments ordered for the plant’s future operations, 22 shipments have already been unloaded, and the power plant is currently functioning normally.
The supplier has also assured authorities that the remaining coal shipments will be delivered without interruption, the statement said.
The Ministry further noted that preliminary steps have already been taken to secure emergency coal supplies if required.
In addition, authorities said sufficient stocks of furnace oil needed for electricity generation are available until the end of April.
In this context, the Ministry stressed that there is no basis for reports claiming that power cuts will be imposed, assuring the public that the country’s electricity supply will continue without interruption.
