No one needs to worry about those arrested getting bail soon: President

Colombo, January 26 (Daily Mirror)- Claiming that no one should be worried about persons who are arrested being released on bail soon, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake said the objective of the government is not to keep suspects in remand prison but to file cases before the High Court.

Speaking at a meeting in Homagama yesterday, he said the government has instructed the relevant authorities to file cases before the High Court against them.

"Some people say that those who are arrested get bail soon. That is the law. Investigators can produce suspects before court during the investigation stage and continue the investigations. The suspect can be prosecuted by filing a case. Our objective is not to keep the suspects in remand custody but to file cases against them before the High Court. The suspects are released on bail if they are not obstructing the investigations and if it is not a case under the public Property Act," he said.
