No music after 10 pm - Court tells Deep Jungle Music Festival organizers

The Hingurakgoda Magistrate's Court issued an order that bars the organizers of the controversial Deep Jungle Music Festival from playing loud music after 10 pm.

The order was issued following a petition filed by environmentalists to prevent the festival, scheduled to begin on February 17 until 20, from taking place in the vicinity Habarana Elephant Corridor.

Furthermore the Magistrate ordered that a team of 20 Police officers and 10 Wildlife Department officers be assigned to monitor that the festival takes place according to the conditions stipulated under Circular no. 2031/2007 issued by the Inspector General of Police. According to this circular loudspeakers or other such devices shall not be used from 10 pm to 6 am the following day.

It would have been better if the order included the maximum sound in decibels that can be used to limit the activity within a prescribed radius. The organisers can now use a high volume to disturb the whole of the wild.

The wild animals in the jungle will go crazy when they hear modern music and dangerous wild animals like elephants and leopards will run amok and attack the villagers destroying their crops. The police and the officers of the Wildllife Department should come well prepared for any emergency inside the jungle between the wild animals and the musicians.

Most of these music programmes don't have any quality. They will be screaming for the same beat from the beginning to end. Just a hype. We don't hear of any new accomplished performers.

Who is this stupid magistrate to imposed curfew for poor animals until 10pm. The most of the wild animals are awake in the night from 6pm. They will run amok and that will create a dangerous situation for neighbouring villagers.

@Joshua: There is no separate law for the jungle. So, judges must have applied the available law.
