No more water leaks at Colombo National Hospital theatre

Colombo, July 15 (Daily Mirror) - The persistent water leaks that disrupted surgeries at the National Hospital Colombo’s Accident Service theatre complexes have now been repaired, hospital sources confirmed.

The leaks were repaired following Daily Mirror’s exposure of the issue, it is learnt.

For over a month, the ground-floor theatres -including the 24/7 operating Casualty, Vascular, and Orthopaedics units- were plagued by continuous leaks, with no visible repairs carried out at the time, when the Daily Mirror first reported it.

The first-floor Orthopaedics theatre complex, comprising five operating rooms, was also affected, with water reportedly dripping onto an operating table during surgery.

The adjacent doctors’ tea room was also affected.

Medical staff had raised their concerns about the risks to patient safety and the breach of sterile conditions during procedures.

However, in the wake of Daily Mirror’s report highlighting the situation, urgent repairs were swiftly carried out and the leaking issues have now been resolved.

Hospital officials confirmed that all affected areas are now fully operational and safe for surgical procedures.

Hospital staff noted that despite repeated prior warnings, the issue was swiftly rectified only after receiving media attention and subsequent pressure to ensure patient safety.
