Colombo, March 1 (Daily Mirror) - The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) said that there will be no delays in receiving fuel stocks ordered up to April and May, assuring the public that supplies remain stable despite tensions in the Middle East.
Addressing a media briefing today (01), CPC Chairman D. J. Rajakaruna said that the relevant fuel shipments are scheduled to arrive from India and Singapore as planned.
He further said that the ongoing conflict situation in the Middle East will not disrupt Sri Lanka’s fuel supply, and emphasised that the assurance is being given responsibly. Rajakaruna said there is no need for the public to remain in queues.
Although fuel distribution had not been scheduled for today (01), operations were commenced after employees involved in fuel activities were called back to work due to increased public consumption. Fuel issuance has now begun and will continue tomorrow (02) as well, despite it being a Poya day.
Rajakaruna also said that all filling stations have been instructed not to supply fuel into barrels, warning that legal action will be taken against those attempting to purchase fuel in barrels for resale.
He said current fuel stock levels are sufficient for several weeks, with no shortage reported.
The CPC said current fuel stocks remain at comfortable levels, with petrol sufficient for 37 days, diesel for 35 days, super diesel for 72 days, and aviation fuel for 47 days.
