No fuel shortage in the country: Amaraweera

Currently, there is no fuel shortage in the country and if filling station owners attempt to create an artificial fuel shortage, he or she will be severely dealt with including the withdrawal of their fuel permit, Power, Energy Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said today.

“I have received information that certain interested groups are attempting to create a fuel shortage with the intention of embarrassing the government. There is no shortage of petrol, diesel or kerosene. People need not hoard fuel because the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CEYPETCO) has ample stocks sufficient for two weeks,” he said.

The Kolonnawa oil installation is continuing to distribute fuel countrywide even on weekends because some filling stations had exhausted their fuel stocks after the sudden demand with long queues of vehicles seen near filling stations during the past two days. (Sandun A Jayasekera)
