No environment clearance granted for cable car project at Sri Pada: CEA

Colombo, May 11 (Daily Mirror) - The Central Environmental Authority (CEA) said today that environment clearance has not been granted for a cable car project at the Sri Pada (Adam’s Peak) site.

Director General of the Central Environmental Authority Kapila Rajapaksha confirmed that no environment clearance has been granted for such a cable car project.

He said this while responding to a question whether any approval has been granted to a cable car project at the Sri Pada site.

It was earlier reported that attention has been drawn to introducing a cable car project at the Sri Pada site as part of efforts to enhance the country’s tourism infrastructure.

It's funny. During the previous regimes no one asked the CEA for their opinion. Apparently all the expressways were a disaster to the fauna and flora. The then government ignored the CEA at the time.

Is The Central Environmental Authority (CEA) is beaming with pride in rejecting a Cable car project at Sri Pada? It has been a habit for The Central Environmental Authority (CEA) to reject Cable car project in other location as well. A Cable car project is certainly a national treasure and very vital to attract tourists to our country. If The Central Environmental Authority (CEA) is rejecting all the Cable car projects, they should come forward to recommend any other locations suitable to establish this vital projects. CEA stands like operation successful but patient died.
