No diplomatic objections to Ranil’s arrest: Foreign Minister

Colombo, August 27 (Daily Mirror) - Foreign Affairs Minister Vijitha Herath said that no foreign diplomats or diplomatic organisation have raised objections regarding the recent arrest of former President Ranil Wickremesinghe.

Speaking at the media briefing to announce Cabinet decisions today (27), Minister Herath said that while various individuals have made different remarks on the matter, none of them are of significant concern.

He further said that the international community now sees that the rule of law is being applied fairly and equally in Sri Lanka.

The Minister said that although there were past concerns about selective law enforcement, such issues are no longer evident.

Most foreign embassies have dossiers on local political leaders with regard to corruption, abuse of power, torture, fraud and misuse of public funds etc., It is difficult to hoodwink them unlike certain local persons of very low IQ.

Clean Sri Lanja is no only great for our country and the people but it is, and will further open more economic relations with the international community - they are now seeing a country they can finally trust! The more valid arrests tge better - and so far they have all been valid. It's not the people of this country that are dishonest or to blame - but our previous leaders.
