Colombo, April 11 (Daily Mirror) - The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) denied the content of a video circulating on YouTube, which falsely claims that the Bureau will provide migrant workers with Rs. 10,000 for the Sinhala and Tamil New Year.

According to the SLBFE, an advertisement being circulated on a YouTube channel operated from a foreign country falsely states that the Bureau will distribute Rs. 10,000 to migrant workers for the New Year.

The video instructs viewers to send a copy of their passport to any SLBFE office on the island.

The Bureau firmly states that it has not issued any such announcement and urges the public not to be misled by this fraudulent information.

The Bureau clarified that no such programme is currently being implemented and emphasised that the advertisement was created with the intent to deceive the migrant community. The SLBFE urges migrant workers not to fall for such false claims.

Furthermore, the Bureau noted that unauthorised social media outlets are not permitted to publish official government announcements, and legal action will be taken against those spreading such misinformation.

The SLBFE stressed that official announcements are made only through recognised media channels, including the Bureau’s official website, Facebook, YouTube and TikTok platforms.

SLBFE is the worst, entity the government created. They charge initially close to LKR 15000 from Migrant workers who go abroad for the 1st time. Thereafter this has to be renewed every two years. However, if the worker changes the employer we need to pay for a fresh registration again the initial fees. When we question as to what's being offered, they tell us it's for insurance, and assistance from the government. If it's for insurance, where is the insurance policy number? secondly and most pathetic, is the so called government help. Embassies in the Middle East are the worst sending desperate people from pillar to post. If you happen to fall into trouble they will most likely disown you. As most migrant workers who send the so called much needed dollars to bloat the country coffers, we are treated like scum when we return. We get no benefits, not even a bloody extra Duty Free Allowance.

That YouTube channel is one of many NPP aligned channels so they are spreading these false stories to change voters behaviour in the upcoming elections. That is what No Plan Pacha party will be doing.

These type of youtubers should be blocked for life for giving false information. The government should take harsh action against such morons. To a track public to read their articles they do such illegal work.
