State Minister Sanath Nishantha made a controversial statement regarding Member of Parliament Nimal Lanza, stating that Lanza possessed extensive knowledge on cannabis and heroin.

The State Minister further claimed that Lanza's expertise in these subjects would surpass that of MP Namal Rajapaksa, implying that the latter had no knowledge on the matter.

Besides, the State Minister alleged that Lanza played a role in the defeat of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

During a TV programme, the State Minister referred to a specific incident where the Special Task Force conducted a raid on Lanza's residence based on information suggesting the presence of drugs.

It was alleged that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa intervened to protect Lanza, which resulted in a strong allegation that this intervention directly contributed to Mahinda Rajapaksa's defeat.
