New minimum paddy purchase prices announced



Colombo, Feb. 16 (Daily Mirror) - The government has announced the minimum prices at which the Paddy Marketing Board (PMB) will purchase paddy from farmers for the 2025/2026 Maha season.

Speaking at a media briefing held at the Department of Government Information, PMB Chairman Manjula Pinnalanda said the Board will purchase Nadu paddy at Rs. 120 per kilogram, Samba paddy at Rs. 130 per kilogram, and Keeri Samba paddy at Rs. 140 per kilogram.

He said the move is aimed at ensuring farmers receive a fair and stable price for their harvest while supporting the country’s paddy production.

The Chairman also stated that the government has allocated Rs. 10 billion for paddy procurement during the Maha season.

He added that the PMB is prepared to purchase paddy directly from farmers under the guaranteed price scheme to help safeguard their income and maintain market stability.
