Parliament, March 3 (Daily Mirror)- The New Electricity Amendment Bill will be introduced soon under which the division of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) will be done away with, Minister of Trade Wasantha Samarasinghe told Parliament today.

"Our government will not privatise any power stations or the transmission of power. The previous government planned to devide CEB into eight seperate companies but our government will not undertake such an exercise," he said.

"We have managed to bring down the price of power to Rs. 18 to 19 a unit from the earlier level of Rs. 30 a unit," he said.

The Ministry said the NPP government will always see to it that power will be purchased at the lowest possible rate.

Keep the momentum up. The laws needs updating and introducing new ones to replace obsolete one’s in this new era is logical thinking. So far, NPP politicians are staying calm and moving ahead even with lots of adversity from their opponents both present and past politicians. Those educated and some uneducated citizens are fully aware of the saboteurs trying to undermine this new government. However AKD is firmly holding on and being an inspiration to his team and the average citizen. Hoping they can now speed up on changing the laws to benefit the majority.

Yes, this is what they have been working hard on these past months. Many more new bills to come. Re Electricity Act, consultations have now closed. Very good too see World bank, ADB, JICA, Institute of Engineers and about 30 groups including CEB engineer groups and unions have given their comments. So, there is productive consultation, unlike the previous government’s undemocratic high handed way of doing things.

Mr. Wasantha Samarasinghe, ok do it, bring the price of power to 18/- to 19/- that will be a great achievement and the COL will also come down. Do it before the Sinhala Tamil New Year, before elections.

NPP has lot of good plans but to implement, like Namal or Sajith thinks cannot do it like a magic. Gradually our President and the Prime Minister and all professional ministers will do it and prove it give them time.
