Navy intercepts local fishing trawler smuggling over 100 kgs of Ice, heroin



Colombo, April 13 (Daily Mirror) - Six suspects were arrested with 77 kilograms and 484 grams of heroin and 42 kilograms and 334 grams of Methamphetamine (Ice) during a special operation on the high seas by the Sri Lanka Navy.

They were arrested along with a local multi-day fishing trawler, believed to be involved in smuggling of narcotics. Subsequently, the intercepted trawler was brought to the Dikkowita Harbour, where a thorough inspection was carried out with the assistance of the Police Narcotic Bureau (PNB).

The consignment, which had been meticulously hidden in the trawler, was handed over to the PNB for onward legal action yesterday.

 

On April 12, the Commander of the Navy conducted an inspection of the seized haul of narcotics at the Dikkowita Harbour. During the visit, he commended the naval personnel and other stakeholders involved in the operation, acknowledging their efforts in ensuring its successful execution.
