Navy, Police seize Rs. 73 mn worth foreign cannabis in Kayts



Colombo, March 07 (Daily Mirror) - The Sri Lanka Navy, in a joint operation with the Sri Lanka Police, seized approximately 368 kilograms of foreign-origin cannabis during a raid at the Suruvil beach area of Kayts Island in Jaffna.

During the operation, authorities arrested one suspect and also took into custody a dinghy believed to have been used to transport the narcotics.

The search operation was conducted by personnel attached to SLNS Kanchadewa of the Northern Naval Command in coordination with the Kayts Police. Upon inspecting the suspicious dinghy on the beach, officers discovered the cannabis concealed in 175 packages.

Authorities said the street value of the seized stock of foreign cannabis is estimated to exceed Rs. 73 million.
