Colombo, March 24 (Daily Mirror) - The Cabinet Ministers has approved the appointment of a National Steering Committee for Education Reforms to ensure the continuous implementation and proper regulation of the ongoing education reform process.
The education reform programme, which began in 2019, was implemented for Grade 1 in 2026 in line with the current Government’s policy framework. The reforms are scheduled to be extended to Grade 6 from 2027 as part of the next phase of the programme.
The Government identified the need to establish a steering committee comprising experts and relevant stakeholders to guide the reform process, monitor its progress and ensure its continuity.
Accordingly, the Cabinet approved the proposal submitted by the Prime Minister, in his capacity as the Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education Minister, to set up the National Steering Committee for Education Reforms.
The committee will consist of relevant ministers, subject experts, Government officials, professionals and trade union representatives, and is expected to provide policy guidance and supervision for the successful implementation of future education reforms.
