Colombo, August 24 (Daily Mirror) - Colombo National Hospital Deputy Director Dr. Rukshan Bellana said that former President Ranil Wickremesinghe who was admitted to the National Hospital, is receiving treatment under strict medical supervision.
According to Dr. Bellana, Wickremesinghe was transferred from the prison hospital after developing dehydration, accompanied by changes in his blood levels and other clinical signs. The condition is believed to have been triggered by prolonged exposure to power outages and insufficient water intake while waiting for several hours in the courtroom.
“I have just seen the former President. He is suffering from dehydration and there are some changes in his blood and other signs,” Dr. Bellana told reporters.
“We need to keep him on strict rest for at least three days and continue treatment. If that is not done, heart problems, kidney problems and other complications may arise.”
The Deputy Director said that Wickremesinghe is currently being closely monitored by multiple teams of specialist doctors.
“We believe he will recover in two to three days, but if proper treatment is not continued, complications could develop,” he cautioned.
