Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa has expressed concern over the unfolding situation in Nepal, drawing parallels with protests that have erupted across South Asia in recent years.
In a message posted on X, Rajapaksa said that demonstrations in countries such as Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Nepal were increasingly transforming into extremist movements that cripple nations, cause bloodshed, and inflict serious damage on vital institutions under the guise of public protest.
He stressed that it was time for regional leaders to come together to address the issue and identify the “hidden hands” behind what he described as a new form of extremism, warning that more countries could fall victim if left unchecked.
“Protests by citizens should be held in a democratic manner, but what we are seeing is a new form of extremism with hidden agendas that needs to be tackled by all leaders,” Rajapaksa noted. He added that as the geopolitical situation becomes increasingly sensitive, greater attention must be given to unraveling and addressing this growing threat.
