Kandy, September 3 (Daily Mirror) - Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MP Namal Rajapaksa today said that the current government is repeating the same mistakes of the previous administration and warned that the “universe will deliver the maximum punishment” if people’s grievances are ignored.
Speaking to the media after visiting the Maha Nayaka Thera of the Gatambe Raja Maha Viharaya in Kandy, Rajapaksa said that instead of addressing public issues, the government is engaged in lies, creating divisions among people, and suppressing dissent.
“The previous government collapsed within five years. The present government is also following the same path. There is no issue in chasing us politically, but they must find solutions to the problems of the people,” he said.
Rajapaksa further alleged that the government has broken the trust of the people by “paralysing the intelligence services, targeting war heroes, and attempting to govern in line with the interests of the Tamil diaspora and remnants of LTTE terrorism.”
He said the Maha Sangha had assured that they would come forward on national issues as they had done in the past.
Commenting on upcoming party summits, Rajapaksa noted that the UNP and SLFP have scheduled their conferences but the SLPP has not received an invitation. “Even though we are not invited, under the democratic framework of the country, our blessings are always with them,” he said.
Rajapaksa also criticised the government for suppressing trade unions and state institutions, adding that despite coming to power with union support, the administration now refuses dialogue.
“We have former President Mahinda Rajapaksa as our party leader, and I am the national organiser. I will prepare the pitch, and we will select the batsman at the right time,” he added.
