Namal urges government to keep promises made to the people

Colombo, Oct. 15 (Daily Mirror) - Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa yesterday warned the government to fulfill the promises made to the people, saying that “enough lies have been told.”

He said that no matter how many amendments are introduced in Parliament or how many ministers are changed, it would not make any difference if the government continued to act dishonestly.

However, he noted that it was encouraging to see that Sri Lanka’s judicial system still functions independently.

Addressing the media, Rajapaksa said that the recent bail consideration of the former Navy Commander had revealed how the Police and CID had acted improperly, as pointed out by the court. “Now the lies of the CID have been further confirmed. Through this, the Police Department has been disrespected,” he said.

He further stated that the harm caused to honest police and military officers who had dedicated their lives to defeating terrorism was extremely serious.

Rajapaksa also accused the government of acting politically to serve the interests of the diaspora and certain other groups “in a very despicable manner.”
