Colombo, Dec. 4 (Daily Mirror) - MP Namal Rajapaksa has announced that he will donate his monthly salary and allowances to the “Adaraya” program, an initiative he launched to support thousands of children from families affected by recent floods and landslides.
The “Adaraya” program, introduced last week, aims to provide essential educational items such as books, pens, pencils, and other supplies to help children resume their studies despite the hardships they face.
Speaking about the initiative, Rajapaksa said the program is open to anyone willing to extend love and support to affected children across the country.
According to UNICEF, nearly 300,000 children have been impacted by the disaster, with over 275,000 affected by Cyclone Ditva alone. UNICEF’s Representative in Sri Lanka, Emma Brigham, expressed deep concern over the extensive damage caused to children and their families.
UNICEF is currently working with the government to provide emergency relief and life-saving services, and is also exploring ways to distribute emergency education kits to children in the hardest-hit districts.
