While commending President Anura Kumara Dissanayake for completing successful visits to India and China, SLPP MP Namal Rajapaksa expressed irony over the President's decision to sign deals with Indian and Chinese companies that the National People's Power (NPP) had previously criticised as "corrupt" during their time in the Opposition.
"During the previous govts. when these Chinese & Indian companies showed interest on investing in Sri Lanka, it was this very NPP who stood against it, terming these companies as controversial, corrupt etc. However now, the NPP seems to have chewn its own words, claiming credit for signing FDIs with them," the MP said.
Rajapaksa said that President Anura Kumara Dissanayake must come out and explain to the public why they opposed these FDIs back then and why they tarnished the image of these Indian and Chinese companies.
"The NPP government must also come out and explain what their foreign policy is, which is still rather vague with no clear direction in sight," the MP said.

Because he is correct on this and doing the correct thing in keeping the NPP accountable. NPP's true colours are being exposed and they are now doing everything they used to "shout about" in ever street corner. We need a good governance govt not just some fake Drs and Prof's with some fake PhD's.

Namal is trying to run before crawling. Hay Namal, you are just a rejected thrown out rotten dead vegetable, no one cares for you man. NPP will work wisely, not like flying daily to Nuwara-Eliya for Horse-ride using Air-force Helicopters.

NPP just follows RW’s roadmap deviating from their policies. I think this is a smart move for the betterment of the country.
6 51
Hassan Monday, 20 January 2025 03:05 AM
This is not RW roadmap who sad, is RW a policy creater? Or theorist. NPP has to follow current method due to IMF condition. NPP didn't oppose chine investment but they opposed taking loans with huge interest rates and wasting the public money on unwanted things like constructing highway for habanthota instead of highway for central province. The per KM cost of Sri Lanka highway has a world record. There was no gain from mattala airport or habanthota harbour. Any person with common sense will criticize such moves and it's true when we fail to pay back we have to give our land to Chinese. That's different from Chinese investment. In investment profit or loss they cannot claim our land and also, we are not in debt trap. So understand the difference with loan and investment. Second even before the election AKD told if we had build an oil refinery instead of harbor we would have paid off the debt by now. RW is not a smart politicians, he has no national plan. He is the one put us in mess.

The government has come to end of popularity within 100 days is worrying. People have overwhelming mandate to NPP but their inexperience and incompetence messed every Sri Lankans dream who voted for them. SLPP at least did developments and progress even though they are stealing. We want results not bloody talks. I’m done with NPP

Chinese or Indian companies were not the problem. The problem was the lack of transparency in the deals. It is good to get the support of those growing economies with proper transparency. In your time your uncles are the ones who decided things based on bribes. But now things are visible to everyone and happening with expert advice and full transparency.

Your Papa did not get large scale investments. They were all high interest loans which was offered by China to put Sri Lanka into a debt trap and they did is successfully. The only direct Chinese investment was the Port City project which is now idling with no or little income generated. The whole world knows the way the Chinese gave loans to underdeveloped countries. What Anura has negotiated are FDIs (Foreign Direct Investment) and not loans. Time to grow up Baba or Ali Baba.

These agreements weren't signed on the fly. They would have been proposed months ago, evaluated, amended, and finally agreed upon well in advance. The actual signing of the agreements by the two presidents is just formality.

Namal, the people have given clear mandate to NPP to develop the country based on the program presented, while rejecting your party with less than 2.5% votes. Let them do the work, we do not need to know why they critsized past governments similar approaches. Perhaps they did not support given the scale of corruptions by your family with all such projects and misuse of public funds. See only less than 6 people travelled to China with AKD at public expense and by a commercial flight. Your father would have gone such trips with entire family using a charter flight at massive cost to the public. This is one of the reasons why your father and SLPP was rejected during last year elections. Do not waste time in questioning Government programs, instead learn from past mistakes, respect public resources, try not to continue corrupt practices and try to win public hearts. There is no other way for you to come back.

Dear Namal; The reason why NPP opposed Rajapaksas deal with the Chinse Government is because Rajapaksas were and are corrupt. We know how Nirupama Rajapaksa's husband and Shiranthis' brother got involved with the corruption with Chinse deals. We also know how Gotabhaya involved with MIG Fighter Plane Commissions and how Udayanga Weeratunga and the then Chairman of Sri Lankan Airlines got involved with massive Commissions with Air Bus deal. Now Rajapaksas are not in power, proceedings will be corruption free. Rajapaksas and relatives economically destroyed Sri Lanka.

A Supporter of NPP Monday, 20 January 2025 10:05 AM
The reason under Rajapaksa regime Chia allocated US$4.5 billion but this time it is US$3.7 billion is simple. The US$800.0 million was allocated for Commissions to Rajapaksa family and relatives and boot lickers. This time with NPP government there will be no payment of Commissions and hence the expenditure for China is less by US$ 800.0 million.

Namal, the super-smart scion of the Rajapaksa family, in his criticism of the behaviour of AKD and the NPP towards Indian and Chinese companies, forgets the only important and striking difference to the previous governments!!! This government will not accept the corrupt promises and deals of these companies! If the Indian and Chinese companies in question benefit the country's own economic interests and positive development processes, then it is completely legitimate and right to do business with them!!! The only thing that matters is that all these deals are concluded and carried out without corruption and bribes!!! Therefore the NPP should not take this nonsense from Mr Namal seriously! He thinks that he should continue to be seen as an egoist and self-promoter, even though he has nothing to say!!!
