MP Namal Rajapaksa, National Organizer of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), criticised the government for taking nearly a year to arrest Sewwandi, saying, “It took the government a year to arrest Sewwandi. So where did it have time to serve the people? Now Sewwandi has been arrested, and the government has time to work.”
Speaking on the government’s anti-narcotics campaign, Rajapaksa said the administration does not require opposition support, as it already has the intelligence and resources to tackle the drug underworld.
“If the government does something wrong, we are ready as the opposition to point out those mistakes,” he added, highlighting the SLPP’s readiness to respond to government actions.
Commenting on the upcoming provincial council elections, Rajapaksa said, “We will decide how to act only after the elections are announced.”
