Colombo, Feb 04 (Daily Mirror) - SLPP MP Namal Rajapaksa has urged the government to launch an investigation into projects and grants operated under USAID in Sri Lanka.
He called for a detailed report to be presented in Parliament, including an account of the NGOs that benefited from these funds.
Taking to X, Rajapaksa highlighted concerns raised by western media regarding USAID’s involvement in global projects.
He noted allegations that USAID funds have been used to create instability in other countries under the guise of humanitarian aid.
According to Rajapaksa, Sri Lanka has received millions of dollars in USAID funding in recent years, with over 100 NGOs, politicians, and media personalities benefiting from these grants. However, he claimed there has been no clear account of how these funds were utilized.
The MP also called for long-awaited regulations on NGO financing to be introduced, stressing the need for transparency in foreign-funded projects.

Yes please go ahead. You can tell your uncle Basil who is in USA to go ahead. Would be much faster to access it there much quicker than waste precious time here and come back with a report to get it more expedited.

What made you to demand this suddenly, after the whole family is benefitting from corruptions for long time. Anyway good idea, let us start investigations from Tsunami Aid. It was Sarath N who saved your father from charges for stealing Tsunami aid came to the victims.

If the Government investigated how Rajapakse family became so rich, it will answer your concern and many other similar cases. Your family robbed poor people money of our country.

So why is the government not investigating how they got the money? Why is the government not bringing billions hidden overseas which they said they would bring? Why are they backing off now? If he was a thief as you put it, then why would he risk of retaliation by asking their questions? Just use your brain, oh I forgot that the brains have been thoroughly washed .

Are you like your father still holding onto China's tail for survival? Why is it your parties governance stand stable on its own feet and provide true results to the country and its people, instead of pimping for some powerful country? Do you see leaders of successful nations talk like you, always on the subject of international threats, threats of other races and religions and even arranging bombing arrangements using the State entities. If you have honestly worked and developed the country and its people, you do not require those monkey tricks you are doing now.

How about an investigation to find the missing tsunami money?? It is a fact that Over US$500 million in tsunami aid given to Sri Lanka has gone missing.

Ask your father and uncles why they did not probe. Since USAID was available to the poor people of Sri Lanka your family robbed People's tax money

Mr Namal, do not try to show that you are against misuse of international funds coming to our country. You father was the leader in abusing power and misusing international funds and local public funds. This is the reason how your family has become so rich and linked with a number of corruption cases (though not yet proved as they were politically influenced). You can try, your dreams to lead the country is many moons away, even NPP failed in its promises.

The most USAID beneficiaries now running the show. So, no point asking them to reveal how much they spent on what projects and individuals or groups. What MP Namal said was right and there are many people in different fields who have received money and did their utmost to destabilize the country. 2015 regime change was case in point so the infamous 'aragalaya'!

First and formost probe into the taransparency and accountability of GOSL funded transactions and projects since 2005. That will solve many issues than USAID in SL. If there were any unlawfull practices, the political caravan moving before bulls must be the main respondents.

Seems to have nothing to do. He should know more than anyone how the money was spent. Further USAID is not a Sri Lankan government entity to share the requested information.

Namal is starting a loosing battle. To begin with the citizens don't care for him and certainly don't trust him. Further he is also perceived as corrupt. If cardinal Malcom Ranith made the same statement citizens would have been concerned as people still trust and love the cardinal even though at time he too is dwelling too deep into politics Sadly these are actual situations worthy of an investigation.

WE THE PEOPLE WANT THE RAJAPASKE'S AND THEIR STOOGES INVESTIGATED FIRST, THEN THE BOND SCAM AND THOSE WHO WERE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE HUGE LOSS THE COUNTRY SUFFERED , WE CAN THEN DIVERT TO OTHERS INCLUDING THIS USAID ISSUE. THE PRESIDENT NEEDS TO APPEAL TO SRI LANKANS ABROAD AND THE RELEVANT AUTHORITIES IN ORDER TO HELP WITH THE TRACING AND RECOVERING OF THE RAJAPASKE'S AND THEIR STOOGES WEALTH IN BANKS, SECRET BANKS, BUSINESSES AND PROPERTY PURCHASED IN THEIR NAMES AND OR STOOGES. THE PEOPLE WILL NOT REST TILL THIS IS INVESTIGATED AND COMPLETE ALTHOUGH WE MAY NOT BE ABLE TO RECOVER ALL THE ILLGOTTEN ASSETTS, IT IS SURE WORTH A TRY AND COULD GIVE CLEMANCY TO THOSE STOOGES AND OR WITTNESSES THAT TURN THEMSELVES IN.

This useless man had not demanded his acolyte Ranil W to conduct these investigations when he was in power, and when they were sitting in the government ranks. Now he comes with these diversionary tactics, looking for a bogeyman in USAID program. Why is he concenred about US destabilizing Sri Lanka now, when he could not think about that when his useless mob was in power? NPP Government nor AKD has time to do Namal fake attorney's biddings whenever he wishes . Stop trying to waste government time, which they want to utilize for more beneficial tasks. Go fly a kite Namal or keep your lips zipped up.

Elon Musk disclosed the information pertaining to these activities. So , the question about who received the funds and how these were spent , is a valid concern. Those who are aligned with such receipients are trying to bring unproven claims of corruption against the one who questioned real frauds and manipulations. This government will not investigate because their party was a big recipient of big money.

Once in my lifetime I agree with the guy. The mine clearence at Kilinochi, stopped it's workers the next day Trump informed that he was cutting USAID. It makes you wonder if these organizations run their budgets day by day? Did the higher ups got their jobs cancelled the very next day too? I bet they will be still working. Government should investigate it.

Sooner these Rajapaksas get out of this country there will be peace and wealth for our country. MR is boasting on winning the war. We acknowledge that win. It happened because he had the 'gift of his gab 'whilst our other Presidents caved to external powers. US aid is spending to recover the economy. NGO's must be paid well for their services in Sri Lanka comparable to their standard of living and risk of working in a foreign country. Namal, for your knowledge in foreign affairs.

Namal, I hope some one from your team is reading these comments and if she/he has a bit of brain will understand the main issue associated with Rajapakse name. It is corruption, abuse of power, stealing public funds, damaging our economy etc. People are more educated these days and they will never vote your family back to power. Even look at now, your father is wasting a massive sum of public money on his official residence. Is he above the rest?

Dear Namal; This is a fantastic suggestion. We know Mahinda Rajapaksa stole funds given by foreign countries to deal with December 2004 Tsunami. He used that money to bribe Prabhakaran just before 2005 Presidential Election and in return LTTE leader ordered Tamil people in North and East provinces to boycott election helping Mahinda to beat Rail. We must probe into all foreign funded projects in Sri Lanka from 2005 this date. Then we will have a clear idea how much Rajapaksas have stolen from these projects.
