Go for a mayoral election or take some support from small parties: politicians and politics must be flexible in some situations: you cannot always do politics with some rigid policies and your political value and principles should be firm and consistent but methods and methodology must change time to time : now you don’t have majority in Colombo MC what do you do now : Be flexible get support from some small parties you may have political differences with them but in the interest of our country and our people you ought to come to term with them . We have to be realistic not dogmatic: People put you in power with expectation that you will use brain diplomatically and Wisely in taking some crucial decisions: now CMC problem is testing ground for you and your leadership to see how you handle this scenario: People are wise enough and 44 million eyes are watching your politics today in SL Please take a wise move .

NPP has a moral right in this situation since they are the party with the highest number of votes in the Colombo MC election. That's how it works in advanced democracies

Does anyone know the exact legal basis that determines who has the right? Something doesn't make sense here - in the last local elections the UNP secured the highest in CMC with 46%. It was not an absolute majority - and yet they had the right to establish the administration. So why can't the NPP this time? As a party - they secured the highest.

nalinda, and NPP, you cn deny, yet you have been rejected to an extent by the people who voted you in the last two, including myself, you have lied, you have failed to deliver on a single promise that you all barked and yelled before previous election, next time you are fully thrown out, you all are a waste of time bunch doing the opposite of expected from you all

You dont have the right as you have failed to obtain the majority of seats. Read the act without talking rubbish. These guys have not learnt a lesson still. Most of the councils in area represented by Nalinds are also lost due to this guys arrogance. With current results anyone can form the council after a vote that will take place. These guys have gone insane after loosing the two third majority and becoming a minor party.

Ridicules. LG lay is clear only a party or a group that has obtain 50% of the seats has the right to nominate the Chairman/Deputy. If not commissioner will hold a secret ballot to appoint them. Unlike in the parliament LG members do not have the right to change parties or have alliances to form a group. In any case comrades cannot join with others because they said all along other tan them all others are corrupt. These in experienced novices jumped the gun. They had no idea which bridge to build and which bridge to burn. They stupidly burned all the bridges. Of course being what they are, they must have removed what we call "Lajja Nahara" ( roughly translated as nerve of shame)

I would like if the party with the majority votes choose the mayor. Other parties should not be allowed to form alliances. Because that is not what the majority of the people want. There should be a protest against this.

Probably the only democracy where you win a clear majority and still some question their legitimacy to govern... majority of the people have voted for them to govern 267 LG's but the opposition feel this massive victory was a loss - Delusional or pathological?
