NPC appoints provincial directors to investigate complaints against Police officers

The National Police Commission ( NPC) had appointed 10 new Provincial Directors to entertain and investigate public complaints against police officers.

The Commison said that the prime responsibility of the new provincial directors is to entertain public complaints at provincial level, investigate the complaint impartially and provide redress to the public or any aggrieved person.

The existing complaints investigation system has been drastically changed in order to provide a better quality of service to the public and to entertain public complaints at provincial level. 

An office has been established in each province to better serve the needs of the public, and based on the exigencies of work, two Provincial Directors have been assigned to the Western Province.

Accordingly,  L.A.P.Gunasekara and H. H. Chulasiri were appointed as directors of the Western Province.

The other officers appointed were, C.A. Mohanras – Northern Province (Jaffna), S. Arulrasa – Eastern Province (Batticaloa), R.K. Premasiri - North Central Province (Anuradhapura), M.A. Edmund Mahendra – Central Province (Kandy), Mrs. R.A.H.A. Samarasinghe – Uva Province (Badulla), H.M. Kulathilaka – Sabaragamuwa Province (Rathnapura), G.M. Somarathna – North Western Province (Kurunegala) and Sunil Chandana Galappaththi – Southern Province (Galle).

The Commission said that the new provincial directors assumed duties in their respective provincial offices last week and the public may either come into these offices and lodge their complaints or via post, or by e-mailing their complaints, or by calling the commission’s hotline number 1960.
