Colombo, July 13 (Daily Mirror) - The National Action Front (NAF) has requested the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) to launch an investigation into the financial activities of companies providing satellite television services and solar panel installation services, alleging the possibility of money laundering through such businesses.
In a letter submitted to the Commission, the NAF called for a comprehensive investigation into the operations of the relevant companies, their owners, international business dealings and investments to determine whether any financial irregularities or money laundering activities are taking place.
The organisation alleged that wealthy and influential individuals invest in these companies and claimed that such investments are not ultimately reflected in the country's income tax system, enabling the accumulation and maintenance of undeclared wealth. It urged the authorities to carry out strict financial audits, particularly into private solar panel installation projects.
The NAF further alleged that certain influential individuals connected to these business networks maintain close ties with senior officials in the security forces and law enforcement agencies and use those relationships to influence others for their benefit.
The organisation also claimed that it would disclose the identities of businesspersons allegedly linked to these networks at a later stage.
The allegations have not been independently verified, and no response had been received from the companies concerned or the Bribery Commission at the time of publication.
