Myanmar donates 500 metric tons of rice to aid cyclone-affected communities



A consignment of 500 metric tons of rice, donated by the Government of Myanmar to support communities affected by Cyclone Ditwah, was officially handed over to Sri Lanka on February 9, 2026, at Colombo Port.

The donation was received on behalf of the Government of Sri Lanka by Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development, Wasantha Samarasinghe. The Ambassador of Myanmar to Sri Lanka, Marlar Than Htaik, ceremonially handed over the consignment in the presence of officials from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, the Disaster Management Centre, and other relevant agencies.

The rice donation is aimed at strengthening national food security and providing much-needed relief to communities affected by the recent floods and cyclone.

The Government of Sri Lanka expressed sincere gratitude to the Government and people of Myanmar for their timely support, highlighting Myanmar’s solidarity with Sri Lanka during the country’s recovery and rebuilding efforts.
