Muslims to commence Ramadan fasting on Sunday

Colombo, Feb 28 (Daily Mirror) - Muslims in Sri Lanka will begin the Holy month of Ramadan on Sunday, (02), since the new moon for the month was not sighted today, the Colombo Grand Mosque announced a short while ago.

Muslims worldwide will observe a month of fasting and prayer during the month of Ramadan.

The food consumption goes up during this month in most of the countries with majority of those fasting. I know it because I was living there. The objective of this is to give rest to the body, feel the pain of hunger, create calmness and be close to holiness. But people tend to cook more and dump excess on the garbage leading to excessive food consumption.
