The mother and the brother-in-law of the police constable who helped drug trafficker and underworld figure Nadun Chinthaka alias 'Harak Kata' to escape have been arrested.

Police spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said they were arrested after investigations revealed that they too had aided the police constable to help 'Harak Kata' escape.

He said police obtained a detention order to hold them for 90 days for questioning under the Prevention of Terrorism Act.

Meanwhile, the police recovered the car suspected to belong to the constable in the Matara area.

Nadun Chinthaka had earlier attempted to escape custody by snatching a firearm from a Sub-Inspector during questioning by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).

However, the Sub-Inspector had managed to prevent the escape, and the police had launched an investigation.

The incident occurred on Sunday (10) when Nadun Chinthaka was brought to the CID for interrogation.

Following the failed attempt by 'Harak Kata', the police constable who had assisted 'Harak Kata' had gone missing. As a result, multiple police teams have been deployed on a search operation to locate the constable.

Nadun Chinthaka Wickramaratne, who had been involved in drug trafficking from Dubai, was arrested in Madagascar earlier this year and extradited to Sri Lanka. Initially detained by the CID for a 90-day period, his detention was extended after the expiration of the initial period. (Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)

Just goes to show that cops and drug dealers/smugglers, not to mention politicians, work hand in hand with each other. And guess who's targeted by the cops (purely for optics)? The average Joe who enjoys a joint now and then.

So a PC has a car! But they act as if they barely cannot get through ‘ 3 square meals a day’ . Never trust anyone who lament about being unable to live due to costs. Take a pavement hawker for instance, much better off than a small grocery shop owner. Both never pay any taxes. But at least the grocery store owner pays the ground rent. This entire system stinks! Forget politicians (they anyway stink) . Sri pankans are the easiest to fool! And we always will be!

If this is the way the police act, why not arrest the daughter of Arjuna Mahendran, as he is absconding from SL?
