Monk begins hunger strike in Tangalle over MR’s security

Colombo, Oct. 8 (Daily Mirror) - Theripahala Siridhamma Thera of Rathupaswala commenced a hunger strike in Tangalle this afternoon (08) to protest the government’s decision to withdraw the security detail of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

The monk began his protest around 1.00 p.m. in front of the D. S. Senanayake statue, opposite the Carlton House in Tangalle.

According to reports, the hunger strike demands the reinstatement of security for former President Rajapaksa as well as other former Presidents.

Ven. Siridhamma Thero described the removal of security for a former head of state as unacceptable, citing concerns over personal safety, and vowed to continue the fast until the government restores the withdrawn protection.
