Modules under new education reforms not started by NPP government: Deputy Minister

Colombo, Jan. 25 (Daily Mirror) - Claiming that the modules under the new education reforms were not started by the National People's Power (NPP) government, Deputy Minister of Labour Mahinda Jayasinghe said today the government only changed them to align with the policies of the government.

Speaking at a seminar organised by the National Movement for Education Reforms in Kadawatha, he said it is not possible for the government to finish writing modules within a year.

"Some people argue that these modules are the ones which the Ranil-Maithri government was planning to bring in 2018 and 19. Yes, the module writing had started. Our government did not start writing modules. Our government cannot finish writing modules within a year. That is the truth. What we did was to change it to align with our policies," he said.

Jayasinghe said there are no specific curriculums for the Ranil-Maithri or Ranil Rajapaksa governments and said that curriculums are the same for all in the world.

He said the National People's Power (NPP) introduced its policies in its election manifesto in 2019 and 2024 and added that the government is attempting to introduce those policies through these education reforms.

The Deputy Minister said the education reforms of Ranil Wickremesinghe for 2023-2033 did not include the pillars under which the new reforms are based, including human resource development.
