Mob storms house to drag mother, children out, over land dispute
The Hambantota Port Police have commenced investigations into an incident where a mob of 50 men had stormed into a house in Mayurapura in Hambantota and assaulted a woman and dragged her along with her two children out of the house.
The incident reportedly took place on Sunday night.
It was reported that the family had built a small house and had requested some men who were staying on the land to vacate it, claiming the land belonged to someone else.
Following the complaints lodged by the victim's party, the Ambalantota Police had referred the case to the Mayurapura Mahaweli Superintendent's Office to resolve the issue.
The mob attack had taken place after the Mahaweli Office had informed both parties that the land issue would be resolved once the travel restrictions were lifted.
No arrests have been made as yet, police said.(Roshan Dilip Kumara)
