MoUs related to defence, energy connectivity, digitization to be signed during Modi’s visit



  • Visit aims to strengthen bilateral ties between India and Sri Lanka

Colombo, March 29 (Daily Mirror) - A number of MoUs (Memoranda of Understanding) related to defence, energy connectivity and digitization will be signed during the upcoming visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Sri Lanka, an official said yesterday.

Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said that the Indian Prime Minister would visit Sri Lanka from April 4 to 6. He is expected to arrive in the country in the evening of April 4.

Mr. Misri served in Sri Lanka as the Deputy High commissioner once.

He, along with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, will witness the groundbreaking of the Sampur solar energy project which has been in the pipeline for a long time, According to Mr. Misri, the Indian Prime Minister will hold bilateral talks with the President. He will also meet other political leaders.

Prime Minister Modi will also travel to Anuradhapura where he will attend religious observances at Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi which was cited by Mr. Misri as a symbol of historic ties between the two countries. In Anuradhapura, he will also inaugurate some India–funded projects.

India extended financial assistance worth US $ 4.5 billion during the economic crisis.
