Colombo, August 30 (Daily Mirror) - The Ministerial Committee appointed to establish the proposed Education Council convened its first meeting yesterday (29) at the Education Ministry.
The committee was appointed in line with the Government’s Policy Statement, with the aim of enhancing the overall quality of education. The session was attended by Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, Education and Higher Education Deputy Minister Dr. Madura Seneviratne, and the Parliamentary Sub-Committee on the Establishment of the Education Council Chairman Mahinda Jayasinghe.
Committee Chairman Professor O. G. Dayaratne presented details on the committee’s future activities and confirmed that a comprehensive report outlining the scope, powers, and membership of the proposed council would soon be submitted to the Minister.
Representatives of the National Education Council and the Public Service Commission were also present. The meeting included further discussions on addressing potential challenges in establishing and implementing the Education Council.
