Colombo, August 21 (Daily Mirror) - Minister Nalinda Jayatissa told Parliament today (21) that the half-dressed postal employee who addressed the media yesterday regarding the ongoing strike is a former Chairman of the Lunugamvehera Provincial Council.
Explaining the government’s position, the minister said that postal employees are provided with uniforms, socks, shoes, and an allowance for stitching. “They now request that uniforms not be issued and instead that the allowance be paid directly,” he noted.
Minister Jayatissa further stated that a section of trade unions at the Central Mail Exchange had launched a strike opposing the fingerprint attendance system and demanding higher overtime payments.
“In order for overtime to be calculated, we need fingerprint recording. Many postal workers already use the system. Why can’t those at the Central Mail Exchange also comply?” he asked.
