Met Dept warns naval, fishing communities to avoid rough seas

Colombo, July 12 (Daily Mirror) - The Department of Meteorology has issued a warning advising naval and fishing communities to avoid venturing into sea areas off the coast from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle, and Hambantota over the next 24 hours due to rough and potentially dangerous conditions.

According to the advisory, these sea areas are expected to be rough to very rough, with strong gusty winds reaching speeds of 55 to 65 kmph. Swell waves ranging from 2.5 to 3.0 meters in height are also likely in the affected regions, increasing the risk of surges near shorelines.

Fishermen and naval personnel operating in these areas are urged to remain cautious and stay updated with further forecasts issued by the Department.
