Maximum retail price for sugar and rice gazetted

The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has issued the gazette notification declaring the maximum retail price for sugar and rice with effect from today.

Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) Chairman Maj. General (Retd.) Shantha Dissanayake has issued the gazette notification under Section 20(5) of the Consumer Affairs Authority Act, No. 09 of 2003.

Accordingly,sugar and rice should be sold at Sathosa, Cooperatives, Super Markets and all other outlets at the maximum retail price.

The maximum retail prices for sugar and rice are as follows:

After tax reduction sugar was gazetted to be sold at Rs. 85/- Now another gazette for sugar to be sold at Rs. 125/- The consumers have to pay Rs. 40/- extra for each kilo of sugar which does not benefit the government nor the consumers
