Sri Lanka experienced exceptionally heavy rainfall in the 24 hours ending at 6.00 a.m. today (28 November 2025), with Gammaduwa in the Matale District recording the highest rainfall at 540.6 mm, according to official observations.
Several areas across the Central and Sabaragamuwa regions reported extreme rainfall totals, with multiple stations exceeding 300 mm. The highest readings are as follows:
Gammaduwa, Matale – 540.60 mm
Elkaduwa, Matale – 442.80 mm
Kotmale, Nuwara Eliya – 421.00 mm
Kandenuwara, Matale – 419.20 mm
Doteloya Estate, Kegalle – 410.20 mm
Nillambe, Kandy – 404.80 mm
Marassana, Kandy – 403.60 mm
Hunugallewatte, Matale – 399.40 mm
Morahena, Kandy – 394.40 mm
Ankananda, Matale – 366.40 mm
A significant rise in rainfall was also recorded in several stations in Nuwara Eliya, Kandy, Kegalle, Badulla, and Kurunegala districts, many of which reported precipitation between 230 mm and 350 mm within the 24-hour period.
