Marriage registrar arrested for accommodating Zaharan, others

A 55-year-old registrar of marriages was arrested by Terrorism Investigation Division (TID) at Oluvil for providing accommodation to Zahran Hashim and others before the Easter Sunday attack.

Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said the suspect, Ahamadu Lebbe Subaddheen.

Investigation revealed that an incident had taken place in 2017 in Kaththankudi involving Zahran Hashim, his brother Rilvan, two maulavis and another.

Accordingly, Zahran had assaulted a group of men who expressed their views against the Zahran's ideology was missing for a certain period of time.

It was revealed that the marriage registrar had provided accommodation to Zahran and others during that period.

However, Zahran, his brother Rilvan and other were killed in Easter Sunday attacks.

The spokesman said the arrested suspect would be detained under the Prevention of Terrorism Act. (DSB)
