Mano Ganesan holds special discussion with UK High Commissioner

Colombo,January 17 (Daily Mirror) - MP and leader of the Tamil Progressive Alliance (TPA) Mano Ganesan, held a special meeting with the UK’s High Commissioner Andrew Patrick to discuss key issues, including the unique challenges faced by Malaiyaha (up-country) Tamil Sri Lankans.

The meeting, held at Westminster House in Colombo, focused on the UK's role in Sri Lanka’s socioeconomic nation-building process.

Discussions also highlighted the challenges faced by the marginalised segment of the plantation community, particularly Malaiyaha Tamils.

"We provided a good-faith reminder of the obligation of the British state towards this marginalised group," MP Ganesan said.

He noted that while the British Plantation Raj has ended, the oppressive system in Sri Lanka’s plantations remains largely unchanged. Key topics discussed at the meeting included land rights, integration into the national mainstream and the devolution of powers.

Barath Arulsamy, Vice President of International Relations & Communications for the DPF-TPA, also attended the meeting.
