Embilipitiya, Feb 07 (Daily Mirror) - A 34-year-old man was electrocuted by an unprotected electric wire, which had been installed around a house at Nelumwewa in Sewanagala to prevent dogs from entering the house.

Investigations revealed that the father of the deceased had installed the unprotected wire as a makeshift barrier to prevent dogs from entering the house, where his wife was staying due to illness.

The victim, who resided nearby, visited the house to deliver lunch to his ailing mother when he accidentally came into contact with the exposed wire, resulting in the electrocution.

The body is at the Embilipitiya Hospital morgue, and the Sewanagala Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.

Erecting live wires around the house should be (if already not) a criminal offence. The risk to public safety far outweighs any benefits. In this case the culprit is the biggest loser as he has lost his son. Are Sri Lankans still ignorant of these dangers?

Also People are drowning everyday in seas and rivers, while pathetic road accidents caused by uncaring drivers/riders is another major killer. Apart from Elephants, don't forget the majestic leopards that are also getting killed in the snares repeatedly.

“Eff around and find out” they say. Serves the bugger right for trying to electrocute innocent dogs that are probably just starving and hungry looking for some measly scarps. Our uncivilised, uncouth, animal torturing society needs these kinds of hard resets to put it right. Good riddance to bad rubbish. A civilised compassionate society has no room for such sadists. Dogs, elephants, leapords and what next? The authorities are having a nap it seems.
