A man who was arrested for having stolen a diamond-encrusted gold ring worth Rs. 2.2 million at a hotel near the Yala National Park, was released on bail by the Thissamaharama Magistrate's Court.
The suspect, a mason who is working at a construction site near the hotel was arrested after a compliant was lodged with the Kirinda Police over the loss of the ring.
Police said a businessman had lodged a complaint that the ring was stolen on Saturday.
It was reported that the ring was belonged to the daughter of a Minister.
The ring reported to have stolen when the woman had left her ring on the wall of the open bathroom at the hotel while showering and had forgotten to retrieve it.
However, the police found after launching investigation using CCTV footage of the hotel that the suspect was taking the ring which the woman had left on the wall of the open bathroom.
Police said the suspect was released on bail after no charges were framed against the suspect as he handed the ring over to the owner.
